10 Rules For Sticking To A Diet

Are you struggling to lose weight? The standard American lifestyle presents many challenges and is not conducive to weight loss and overall good health. Here are a few tips that may help you get started and bust through those dreadful weight loss plateaus.

Remove Obstacles:

Get rid of the junk food in your house. Toss the chips, high sugar and high sodium foods and high fructose corn syrup. If there is no junk food in the house, your temptations will be removed.

Get Accountability:

Share your plans with the world. Tell your friends and family. Post your goals and updates on Facebook. This helps to hold you accountable and may motivate others to join you. Surround yourself with supportive and like minded people. Don’t listen to the haters, they are just jealous and want to bring you down. If you succeed, they will feel worse about themselves. This is just the way people are. I don’t know why it is just the way it is.

Use Incentives:

Reward yourself for hitting long-term goals. Buy a new pair of shoes, a dress, golf clubs, take a trip or invest in some new exercise equipment. Try to avoid using food as incentive. That is what got you into this mess in the first place right? It is ok to have a “treat meal” from time to time to maintain your sanity, but using food as a reward creates bad habits.

Avoid Tempting Environments:

Deliver yourself from evil. Stay away from tempting environments where you know you are likely to struggle or even fail. Do not ever eat at a buffet, most people cannot control how much they eat at a buffet, and the food is all unhealthy.

Pick Routines to Follow and Avoid:

Make a healthy game plan with foods you can stick to and add to the plan over time. Likewise, know what routines to avoid and plan ahead so that you are not faced with too many unforeseen obstacles.

Have 2 Solutions for Every Obstacle:

Try to plan for the week ahead to avoid obstacles. Have a food that you can turn to when serious challenges arise. Prepare healthy snacks and meals ahead of time and eat them throughout the week to help you stick to your plan.

Write Down Your Goals:

Set a goal with a date to reach that goal. This will help you stay focused and on track. Weigh yourself no more than once per week. Don’t let the scale control your life. How do you feel? Are you pants fitting better? Do you feel better? It is not just about the number on the scale.

Have a Reason “Why”:

A good “why” will help you along your journey. Why are you doing this? Is it for your family or to be there for your kids? Do you to look great on the beach this summer?

Have Rituals to End Eating:

Go for a walk after supper to get out of the kitchen and away from temptation. Eat an apple when you are hungry instead of candy or other high density foods.

Drink Water – It Helps:

Research shows that drinking water helps to control appetite, stress and your overall mood. Get rid of the soda and sugar drinks and drink more water. Your body is thirsting for it!
